Comments on Area 6 Milman Road, Clarina Street, Bernard Street, Fairfield Street

We like:
Stunning perspectives - all three streets
Nice houses
Views across Arboretum (from Milman Road); also down across the valley from the other streets
Eye-catching features over doorways
Railings that differ from street to street, from house to house
Decorative brickwork
Interesting layout of gardens at top of Clarina and Bernard Street
An old wooden cart spotted on a roof - a quaint landmark or a bit of rubbish?

We dislike:
Too many parked cars on Milman Road
A plethora of satelite dishes on some streets
A once-busy little corner shop converted into a windowless wall
A charming little garden left in a state of neglect

What would make it better?
Allow parking on one side of Milman Road only
Cycle signs pointing to the Arboretum Cafe would be useful to touring cyclists, since Milman Road is earmarked as a link on National Cycle Route No. 1
Give advice and incentives to encourage the upkeep of gardens
Convert Pelican crossing at bottom of Fairfield Street to a Toucan, for local cyclists using the route from Tower to town

Comments on Area 5 Devon Street to Monks Way

Houses, bungalows, gates
Trees on roadside
Nice gardens

What we dislike:
Ugly spiky fencing

Full bin!
Plastic bags caught in trees
Graffiti on service boxes
Lots of sky dishes
Bad pavement on alleyways
Lots of FOR SALE and TO LET signs

What would make it better?

Double yellow lines sp that cyclists can use the road safely

Comments on Area 5 Spa Street to Dorset Street

We like:
Plenty of dog bins at bottom of Spa Street
Interesting architecture and windows on church
Most houses are in character with each other
Lovely old house at bottom of Toronto Street
Nicely kept houses on Dorset Street
Houses, bungalows, nice gables
Handy cut-through
Trees along edge
Modern street lighting

We don't like:
Shame about the view downhill!
Dirty shabby houses fronting Monks Road
Wouldn't like to live next to the railway when the cargo goes past - very smelly!
Shabby cake shop on the corner

What would make it better?
More greenery to cover pylons
Take the olf bus stop down
Make home owners and shop keepers make their fronts more aesthetically pleasing
A 20mph speed limit along Monks Road

Comments on Area 1 East Liberty, Roman Pavement

We like:
Flowers in gardens, the little green, the paths

We don't like:
Boarded houses - 7 of them!
People parked on paths - can't get past walking!
The phone box is normally smashed
Street signs need replacing
Bus signs missing
Litter on roadside

What would make it better?
Close the park at night
Add some lights
Street cleaners

Comments on Area 5

What do we like about this area?

The new flats on Monks Road

The dual language signs in some shops and the growing cultural diversity in the area
The house on the corner of Toronto Street and the railway footpath
The original street signs on some of the streets
That there are sufficient bins and dog bins on the railway path
The original features on some of the houses

What do we not like the area?

The absence of a bike route alongside the railway
There is some litter on the streets
There is some graffiti on the walls on the railway path
Fly tipping over the fence near the railway line at the bottom of McInnes Street
The state of repair / decoration of some properties

What would make it better?

Clean and repaint the original street fittings (Hartley, McInnes, Kent, Dorset streets)
Garden walls replaced on Monks Road (with new railings)
Removing litter
